- Do I have to register for an account to use this
website?
-
Yes and No. You may view any content as a guest, but to post or
submit material (add to the calendar, submit a classified add or a
review, etc.) then you have to register for an account. Other than
your name and e-mail address, registration does not ask for any
sensitive or personal information, so you never need to worry about
protecting your privacy.
- How many houses are in Knettishall?
- 364. There are 58 on Aberdeen, 9 on Byington, 72 on Hardwick,
18 on Loch Ness, 64 on Loch Raven, 35 on Pleasant Plains, 81 on
Thetford and 27 on Wyton.
- How long does it take to pass out
newsletters?
- It took 2 of us 2 hours to pass them all out. phew! This means
about 40 seconds per house to deliver a newsletter.
- Is there anything particular I should know about
moving into my house?
- Your front door is larger and wider than many doors, so you
will have very little trouble moving furniture inside. The stairs to
your basement may be narrow and may have some tight turns, so you
might have difficulty with really tall (over 88 inches) objects. The biggest
problem is that queen-sized boxsprings (or larger) can't fit up the
stairs, since the banister is in the way, and the ceiling above the
stairs is about one-to-two inches too low. Your options are: buy a
split boxspring from a matress store, cut your big boxspring in half,
or push really, really hard and tear up your big boxspring and the ceiling.
- Do I have a reserved parking space?
- No. The street is public property and parking can't be
reserved. If you have limited mobility, you can request a
handicap-reserved space in front of your house by calling the MVA
at 1.800.850.1682.
- Someone is parked in my usual space. Someone
accused me of parking in their space. What can I
do?
- Legally, nothing. The street is public property so parking
is open to any car with current registration. However, there is an
understanding, and an honored tradition, that people work together
so everyone can park near their homes. But this only works if everyone
does their part, which includes being respectful and responsible.
Since only so many cars fit on a block, you should meet with your
neighbors and agree where you will all park your cars. Then,
identify markers, on the street or sidewalk, that designate where
you put your car, and make sure to park it there each time.
Remember, sloppy parking by one person throws off many other
houses. If you need parking for more than one car, you should
discuss this with your neighbors and come to a mutual agreement.
If your neighbor, or one of their friends, parks in front of your
house once in a while, be respectful and keep some perspective.
There is probably another spot a very short distance away, and
chances are, you'll get to park in front of your house later that
day, or tomorrow at the latest. If the problem continues, then be
sure to discuss this respectfully with your neighbor. A polite
explanation and mutual understanding will almost always work. But
one snide comment or nasty note to your neighbor can cause bad
blood for months.
- Are there any restrictions on what I can do to the
exterior of my house?
- Knettishall is not a covenant community, so there are no
community-imposed restrictions. However, it is in everyone's best interest
that you keep the exterior of your house clean and your lawn/garden
maintained. Poorly kept properties make the neighborhood ugly, and
turn away prospective buyers. This can lower property values, which
hurts everyone.
Legally, Baltimore County has zoning laws and livability code which
prohibit storage of unlicensed or inoperative motor vehicles, open
dump or junkyard conditions, kennel operations, unsanitary or unsafe
conditions, rubbish/garbage not stored in trash receptacles, unsound
structural exterior, and defective roof, steps, chimney, windows,
doors, and fences. High grass and weeds are not allowed, and grass
must be cut to at least 3-inches. Plants, shrubs and trees may not
block the sidewalk. Animal waste must be cleaned from your lawn and
property. If you are in violation, the County will fine you $200 per
day and, if they have to come fix the problem, will also charge you
for the labor and may put a lien on your property.
- What responsibilities do I have to the alley
behind my house?
- By law, the alley must have a clear width of 12 feet so trash
collection and emergency vehicles can pass through. This means you
can't park your car there, but you can stop your car for short
periods, i.e. to wash it, as long as you stay with the vehicle. You
are responsible for keeping the alley behind your house clean of
garbage and if you have grass or plants, you must maintain them. The
County will cite violators as explained above.
- I'm having a problem with a neighbor. What can I
do about it?

with your neighbor. If that doesn't work, notify one of your board
members or block captains or contact us using the links at the left
or top of this page. The County Police offer a free mediation
